Color intensifiers

Some substances are used to intensify the color of pyrotechnic formulations. For example, polyvinyl chloride, hexachlorobenzene (HCB) or other organic chlorides mixed with barium and copper salts are used to produce green color whereas strontium salts produce red color. [Pg.335]

Note For some of the substances the intensities of coloration are only stable for ca. 2 h in the case of phenols the coloration intensifies during this time [2], The detection limits for indole derivatives lie in the lower nanogram range. [Pg.417]

Parlon has been used in pyrotechnic tracer formulations as a color intensifier and binder (Ref 4). It is also employed as a base for rapid drying concrete paints and alkyd enamels (Ref 5) Refs 1) G.F. Bloomfield, JChemSoc 1943, 289 2) Parlon, Properties and Uses , Hercules... [Pg.491]

Accdg to Kirk Othmer (Ref 8a), mixts of Cu pdr with organic chlorinated compds have been used as color intensifiers in some pyrotechnic compns... [Pg.297]

Pyrotechnic compns are normally mixts of finely powdered materials which, when ignited, will react and evolve a considerable amount of light, heat and smoke. Various organic binders and color intensifiers may be included in the mixts. The heat of reaction of a pyrot mixt may vary from 0.8 to 1 KJ/g and temps of 1000 to 3500° may result. More fatalities are experienced because of the effects of heat and flame than because of shock overpressure (Ref 9)... [Pg.246]

Neutrals. Black, white, and gray are the three neutrals or noncolors, which are not part of the color wheel. A neutral, when used beside a color, intensifies the color. Black and white, if not used properly, can dominate a composition. We see black when no electromagnetic radiation reaches our eyes we see white when all the wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum reach our eyes. [Pg.37]

In a test tube about 180 mm long and 18 mm in external diameter, about 15 mg of the substance to be examined, or the prescribed quantity, is placed and 0.15 ml of phosphoric acid R is added. The tube is closed with a stopper through which passes a small test tube about 100 mm long and 10 mm in external diameter containing water R to act as a condenser. On the outside of the smaller tube, hang a drop of lanthanum nitrate solution R. Except for substances hydrolyzable only with difficulty, place the apparatus in a water-bath for 5 min and then take out the smaller tube. The drop is removed and mixed with 0.05 ml of 0.01 M iodine on a tile. At the edge, 0.05 ml of dilute ammonia R2 is added. After 1 to 2 min, a blue color develops at the junction of the two drops the color intensifies and persists for a short time. For substances hydrolyzable only with difficulty, heat the mixture slowly to boiling over an open flame and then proceed as prescribed above. [Pg.15]
