It is reported that in the USA, the Occupational Safety Health Administration has cited Dartmouth College for failing to warn its laboratory researchers about the limitations of latex gloves and for other safety violations. This follows the tragic death of Professor Karen Wetterhahn, who died after spilling dimethyl mercury on her gloves at the college. 

All those involved with laboratory chemical education and research should own or have ready access to Prudent Practices in the Laboratory Handling and Disposal of ( hemicals. Section l.D should be required reading for all college and university chemistry faculty. This section presents a convincing distinction between safety education and safety training.
