Cold work permit

Cold work permit—routine maintenance and mechanical work Hot work permit—any maintenance procedure that produces a spark, excessive heat, or requires welding or burning... [Pg.81]

The types of permits used in the chemical processing industry include cold work permits, hot work permits, opening/blinding permits, permits to enter, unplugging permits, energy isolation procedures, and lock-out, tag-out procedures. [Pg.84]

Pure metal that is ductile while cold can therefore be prepared only by methods which use halides as the starting materials. However, these procedures, which are based on the reactions KgTiFs (or NagTiFs) + Na (method II) or TiCl4 + Na (method III below), suffer from the drawback that the deposited metal is usually porous or flaky, which leads to reoxidation during the removal of the alkali halide by-product it is therefore used only as a crude starting material for the purification process. Nevertheless, careful adherence to a number of precautionary measures permits the preparation, even by these methods, of pure metal which can be cold-worked. The Kroll magnesium process (method IV), which utilizes the reaction between TiCl and Mg, is used at present both in the laboratory and In industry. [Pg.1161]

A safety process control for cold work activity to ensure proper initiation, review, and execution. See also Hot Work Work Permit. [Pg.66]

Permit system—a regulated system that requires a variety of permits for various applications. The most common applications are cold work, hot work, confined space entry, opening/blinding, permit to enter, and lock-out/tag-out. [Pg.70]

Permit systems are designed to protect workers from dangers involved in hazardous energy, hot work, opening and blinding, confined-space entry, and cold work. A good permit system can easily be integrated into normal operations to protect employees, equipment, and the environment. [Pg.72]
