Cognitive function antibodies

Antibody on the surface of naive or memory B lymphocytes serves to recognize and bind specific antigen IgM serves this main cognitive function. It exists as a pentamer of five monomer units with an antigen valency of 10 and is extremely efficient at binding antigen. IgD appears to function mainly on the surface of B lymphocytes and may also contribute to cognition in some way. [Pg.129]

Guo et al. [372] constructed a plasmid DNA vaccine encoding ten repeats of Ap3 10 and three copies of C3d-p28 as a molecular adjuvant and administered it intramuscularly in 12-month-old female Tg-APPswe/PSENldE9 mice. Therapeutic immunization with p(Ap3 10)10-C3d-p28.3 stimulated a Th2 immune response that elicited therapeutic levels of anti-Ap antibodies and improved cognitive function. The vaccine reduced the cerebral Ap burden and astrocytosis without increasing the incidence of microhemorrhage. [Pg.426]
