Codes, honor

The following are exercises that have been used with honors students and that seem to be both interesting and challenging. In many cases only the rudimentary coded solution is given. From this one can build much more sophisticated code and in many cases create Module functions that can be used repeatedly with different parameter values. Note that all of these separate problems were run as if the Kernel had to be restarted with each computation. Running sequentially without adding statements to clear variables will result in absurd output. [Pg.459]

This chapter is about specifying types what a component does as seen from the outside and ignoring what goes on inside. But brains work bottom up, so it will be easier to understand what the specification means if we can see the kinds of implementation that it can have. Let s start the time-honored way we ll hack the code first and write up the spec afterward.5... [Pg.118]

The trial against me was not a real trial. The main session of the trial ended in a deadlock. The sentence was equivalent to the destruction of an 80-year old man. I was not permitted to defend myself against charges consisting of lies, harassment, and attacks on my honor. The court denied me the possibility of defense by means of sec. 186 of the German Penal Code. It refused to put my assertions to the test of examination. [Pg.353]

Until the late 1970s, the Wiswesser Line Notation (WLN) was the only widely recognized format in which to code chemical structures in a computer-readable linear format. It was invented by William J. Wiswesser (1952), and his work was recognized and honored with the Skolnik Award for outstanding contributions to and achievements in the theory and practice of chemical information science by the American Chemical Society in 1980. The WLN was quickly adopted by major chemical companies to store and retrieve machine-readable, 3D-chemical structure information in a 2D, linear array, and is still in use today. [Pg.40]

The... code of honor is that you don t turn anybody else in, Doblin continues. That s lost from the public consciousness. And that s more true from the old days, from the pot dealers. That sort of shifted when the pot dealers got into coke. But that s always been the case with the LSD dealers. That s why the DEA s been very rarely busting labs and major distributors for LSD. Wilkinson 2001... [Pg.39]

Neuberg was a complex personality. The strict framework of Imperial Germany, with its class consciousness and its military code of honor, provided a strange arena for the ingenuity, ambition, and drive of the young Carl Neuberg. [Pg.1]

This code sets forth the code of ethics and professional standards to be observed by holders of documents of certification conferred by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Certificants shall, in their professional safety activities, sustain and advance the integrity, honor, and prestige of the safety profession by adherence to these standards. [Pg.120]

So what is an acid Water, sulfuric acid (dangerl), vinegar (acetic acid), or deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, the molecule containing your genetic code - they are all acids. On the other hand, boron trifluoride, BF3, carbon monoxide, CO, or sulfur dioxide, SO2, are not acids none of these molecule can give a proton away. The acids that can give a proton away are also called Bronsted acids, in honor to Danish physical chemist Johannes Bronsted. (There are also Lewis acids.)... [Pg.87]

The Ciba Foundation held a symposium in honor of Sir Henry Dale in London on 6 and 7 April 1955. Charlie Code began his contribution by saying ... [Pg.169]

The truth is that, like many groups in Badlands, they re not easy to peg with a word or two. They do believe in honor, and they have a Code of Honor to which they strictly adhere. Part of the code is that violence is never used except when necessary. On the other hand,... [Pg.123]

Because of technological developments in psycho-photonics, though they are dead, echoes of their life forces can be funneled from the ether (to whence their spirits were dispersed when they died) and enter those holograms. Thus your dead family members can guide you on the code of honor of a warrior and even give you tactical advice. (Note how history contributes to gameplay.)... [Pg.273]

A metal plaque that reads "U.S.S. Voyager" falls off a Voyager bulkhead during a battle with the rogue ship. This plaque is a symbol that the spiritual core of Voyager—the moral codes of the Federation, the Starfleet tradition of honor and humanity, and the moral compass of people who uphold these codes and traditions—has been damaged. It s a Symbol of a Condition or Change in Condition of Janeway... [Pg.351]
