In a rather comprehensive work aimed at synthesizing diverse carbapentofuranoses, Desire and Prandi [8] exploited a cobalt-catalyzed radical cyclization/oxygenation of a wide number of 6-iodohex-l-enitols to assemble the carbocyclic frame of the targets.
