Coatings, specific gravity

Global consumption of thermoplastic mbbers of all types is estimated at about 600,000 t/yr (51). Of this, 42% was estimated to be consumed in the United States, 39% in Western Europe, and 19% in Japan. At present, the woddwide market is estimated to be divided as follows styrenic block copolymers, 48% hard polymer/elastomer combinations, 26% thermoplastic polyurethanes, 12% thermoplastic polyesters, 4% and others, 9%. The three largest end uses were transportation, 23% footwear, 18% and adhesives, coatings, etc, 16%. The ranges of the hardness values, prices, and specific gravities of commercially available materials are given in Table 4. 

Marcos Boll has shown that, for every fifty-six ports of actual wood contained in an ordinary stack, there are forty-four of unoccupied space. In prosecuting his inquiries into this snbjcct, he determined the real amount of matter in a given bulk of wood, the tabulated specific gravity having been previously ascertained by coating the wood with varnish as already stated... 

Radioisotopes are widely used in die measurement of process variables, including the level of liquids and solids in tanks, silos, and other vessels, the density and specific gravity of fluids and solids, the thickness of sheets and coatings, the moisture content of soils and other solids, the mass flow of materials in pipelines or on belts, and the determination of chemical composition of raw materials, in-process materials, and end-products. Representative examples of these applications are given in Table 6. 

The aluminum coated plate used to measure film thickness was 0.5 cm wide and was placed on the substrate. In most experiments the spacing between electrodes was 1 cm. Other electrode spacings are noted in the results. Values of the cross section of styrene monomer and the volume of styrene polymers were calculated from the specific gravity of styrene.
