Coatings atmospheric-resistant

Recently more and more attention has been paid to atmosphere-resistant and moisture-impermeable coating materials [205], for example, in apparatus construction (instrument making), enamels constituting copolymers of vinylchloride with vinyracetate in agriculture,alkyd-styrene enamels and for the painting of light motor vehicles [206], polyacrylate enamels. [Pg.160]

Microcracked chromium coatings are resistant to corrosion in the atmosphere. The coatings are not suitable for use in strongly acidic environments. The chromium coatings may not be impressive on their own merit but their contribution in increasing the life of nickel, copper and other coatings is signifrcant. [Pg.416]

Alloys of the 5000 and 6000 series form anodic coatings that resist atmospheric corrosion best. On the other hand, alloys of the 2000 series have the poorest performance (due to AI2CU intermetallics that locally weaken the anodisation layer). [Pg.287]

Fig. 26. SEM micrographs illustratiag the effects of airborne basic chemical contamination, (a) This image was formed when a positive-tone CA resist was processed without any delay after coating, (b) This image was formed when an identical film was stored after coating for 15 minutes in an atmosphere containing 10 parts per billion on A/-methylpyrrohdone, and then processed identically to the first film. In a reducing atmosphere, molybdenum is resistant at elevated temperatures to hydrogen sulfide, which forms a thin adherent sulfide coating. In an... [Pg.465]

Tin—cadmium coatings are particularly resistant to marine atmospheres and have appHcations in the aviation industry. [Pg.61]

Lead has a good general resistance to various atmospheres. As a coating, it has had its greatest application in the production of terne-plate, which is used as a roofing, cornicing, and spouting material. [Pg.2424]

Aluminum coatings on steel will perform in a manner similar to zinc coatings. Aluminum has good resistance to many atmospheres in addition, being anodic to steel, it will galvanically protect exposed areas. Aluminum-coated steel products are quite serviceable under high-temperature conditions, for which gooa oxidation resistance is required. [Pg.2424]

Impedance spectroscopy This technique is essentially the extension of polarization resistance measurements into low-conductivity environments, including those listed above. The technique can also be used to monitor atmospheric corrosion, corrosion under thin films of condensed liquid and the breakdown of protective paint coatings. Additionally, the method provides mechanistic data concerning the corrosion processes, which are taking place. [Pg.911]
