Bernal (6) has described the extraordinarily close stylistic relationship of some of these figurines to those of the Olmec culture in the metropolitan Olmec zone along the Gulf Coast characteristic Olmec types are as fine and beutiful in Tlatilco as are their counterparts in La Venta. At times they are so similar that it would not be possible to tell their provenance had they not been found during explorations. ... [Pg.91]

The post analysis results from a plant wide dynamics code MIMIR-N2 are in excellent agreement with the experimental data as shown in Fig. 12. Various key parameters are clarified to improve the calculation accuracy through the study. In the short-term analysis, the evaluation of thermo-hydraulic behavior in the core is largely affected by the inter-assembly heat transfer effect, the pump flow coast characteristics and coolant flow distribution. For the long-term analysis, it is important to assess precisely the buoyant head effect in the IHX, the heat exchange effects in the lower plenum of the IHX and others. The experimental result is also applied to the assessment of natural convection characteristics in the MONJU reactor. [Pg.41]

It may seem unlikely that all these conditions could have been met, but at least one deposit of uranium ore has characteristics indicating that, long ago, it operated as a natural nuclear reactor. At Oklo in the Gabon Republic near the western coast of equatorial Africa (see photo), there are uranium deposits of high purity... [Pg.1590]

Regional climate should be the first consideration when evaluating the suitability of an alternative landfill cover for a site. If the regional climate appears to be compatible with the requirements of the alternative cover, then site characteristics should be examined to determine whether the site climate is also suitable. Site and regional climate may differ substantially for sites near mountains, in valleys, in the rain shadow of coastal mountains, or near the coast. The Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence commissioned a generic assessment of the suitability of the ET landfill cover based on regional climate for the continental United States.4... [Pg.1066]

The military will continue with its fuel infrastructure of high sulfur diesel (up to 1,000 ppm sulfur by weight) and jet fuel (JP-8). Sulfur specification will remain high because the military has to consider worldwide fuel sources. High sulfur diesel and JP-8 are close in characteristics so no fuel flexibility is required. However, there is a possibility that some parts of the military or the Coast Guard (a military service within the DOT) could use fuels more compatible to the fuel cell in limited applications. [Pg.202]

The influence of river water inputs on trace metal distributions is illustrated in Figure 11.17c, which shows that the surface-water concentration of dissolved Mn in the Pacific Ocean decreases with increasing distance from the California coast. The vertical profile measured in the coastal zone (Figme 11.17b) exhibits a strong surface enrichment characteristic of scavenged trace elements. A similar vertical gradient is seen in the... [Pg.289]

A cyclonic storm satisfying these criteria moved in over the California coast within 25 days after each of these three nuclear explosions affording high probability that the 140Ba from the latest explosion would be measurable with adequate precision. The three Pacific cyclones examined occurred during Nov. 15-17, 1966, Jan. 20-22, 1967, and Jan. 8-11, 1968. Each of these storms exhibited different meteorological characteristics. To assist in evaluating the radiochemical data, each storm was analyzed. [Pg.461]

Madeira wines exhibits a peculiar winemaking processing, fundamental to the development of its specific characteristics. It is a fortified wine made on the island of the same name of the coast of Portugal. The Madeira Island has a long winemaking history dating back to the Age of Exploration, when Madeira was a standard port of call for ships heading to the New World or... [Pg.208]
