Coagulant agent

The cake produced by the digestion is extracted with cold water and possibly with some diluted acids from the subsequent processes. During the cake dissolution it is necessary to maintain the temperature close to 65°C, the temperature of iron sulfate maximum solubiUty. To prevent the reoxidation of the Fe " ions during processing, a small amount of Ti " is prepared in the system by the Ti reduction. The titanium extract, a solution of titanium oxo-sulfate, iron sulfate, and sulfuric acid, is filtered off. Coagulation agents are usually added to the extract to faciUtate the separation of insoluble sludge. 

A variety of coagulation methods is available to prepare the rubber for dry rubber technology processes. Passive oxidation of mine water from the Maude Mine removes up to 98% of the contained As through precipitation of ferrihydrite and scavenging of As from solution. The remaining arsenic in the water can be removed by the use of the coagulating agents poly-aluminium chloride or ferric chloride. 

New uses of known products may be patented. Thus, if protein X is only known for use as and anti-coagulant agent, claims directed to its use in an application based on the finding that it has antioxidant activity, would be novel. 

It has long been known that nitrocotton may be precipitated from solution in the form of a gel on the addition of a metallic powder, e.g. copper, aluminium. Jenkins [32] examined the activity of different metals as coagulating agents, and found lead to be the strongest, and zinc the weakest coagulating agent. Colloidal Uranous Oxide.—During the electrolysis of a solution of uranyl chloride a black reduction product is precipitated at the cathode. This precipitate dissolves in water, forming a dark-coloured colloidal solution, which by titration with potassium permanganate, before and after reduction with zinc, has been shown to contain uranous oxide. A similar solution may be obtained by the reduction of uranyl chloride by zinc or copper in dilute acid solution. When very dilute, the solution has a yellow tinge. In an electric field it becomes decolorised at the anode and precipitation takes place at the cathode. It behaves as a typical positive colloid with coagulating agents.
