Infra-red Spectrum. Principal peaks at wavenumbers 752, 1225, 805, 842, 1212,1237 (clomipramine hydrochloride, KBr disk). 

Clomipramine hydrochloride clomipramine, clomocycline [ban, inn] is a semisynthetic (tetracycline) ANTIBIOTIC. It can be used clinically as a broad-spectrum ANTIBACTERIAL. 

A comparison of the surface activities of 10 moll" solutions of the antidepressants in 0.9 % NaCl and acetate buffer [25] leads to similar conclusions concerning the influence of substituents on the hydrophobicity. For example, a 10 mol 1 solution of clomipramine hydrochloride has a surface pressure of 12.9 mN m Mn 0.9 % NaCl which is approximately twice that of a 10 mol 1" solution of imipramine hydrochloride due to the hydrophobic nature of the —Cl substituent on the tricyclic ring of clomipramine. 

Clomipramine hydrochloride tablets 10-50 mg. Adult dose 30-150 mg daily in divided doses or up to 250 mg as single dose at bedtime (depression, phobic states). Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years.
