Clopidogrel clinical trials

The reported incidence of resistance to these drugs varies greatly, from less than 5% to 75%. In part this tremendous variation in incidence reflects the definition of resistance (recurrent thrombosis while on antiplatelet therapy vs in vitro testing), methods by which drug response is measured, and patient compliance. Several methods for testing aspirin and clopidogrel resistance in vitro are now FDA-approved however, their utility outside of clinical trials remains controversial. [Pg.767]

Although ticlopidine has the same mechanism of action as clopidogrel and possesses a similar molecular structure, the results of clinical trials among the two agents are strikingly different. The Swedish Ticlopidine Multicenter Study (STIMS) had determined that ticlopidine therapy (500 mg/day) was able to reduce total mortality in comparison to placebo in patients with intermittent claudication p =... [Pg.457]

The thienopyridines include clopidogrel, ticlopidine, and prosugel. Clopidogrel is the only member of this class in clinical use at this time. A second generation of this drug, Prosugel, is undergoing trials (27). Ticlopidine is not used... [Pg.131]
