The polymeric/ soft materials chapter represents the largest expansion for the 2nd edition. This chapter describes all polymeric classes including dendritic polymers, as well as important additives such as plasticizers and flame-retardants, and emerging applications such as molecular magnets and self-repairing polymers. This edition now features click chemistry polymerization, silicones, conductive polymers and biomaterials apphcations such as biodegradable polymers, biomedical devices, dmg delivery, and contact lenses.

Wooley and coworkers utilized click chemistry to prepare block copolymer micelles and shell cross-linked nanoparticles (SCKs) presenting click-reactive functional groups on their surfaces [144,145]. Moreover, they presented the preparation of well-defined core cross-linked polymeric nanoparticles, utilizing multifunctional dendritic cross-linkers that allow for the effective stabilization of supramolecular polymer assemblies and the simultaneous introduction of reactive groups within the core domain [146].
