Housekeeping An important component of environmental control are the housekeeping activities utilized to clean the facility external to the controlled environments. Aseptic operations utilize a series of protective environments to protect the sterile field. Controls on the surrounding unclassified areas are an important part of the overall control scheme for sterile manufacturing. These unclassified areas support sterile operations in a variety of ways, and it is important to conduct activities therein that assist in the environmental control. Support and maintenance. Facilities must be available for the proper storage and maintenance of respiratory equipment. Regular cleansing and sanitation is essential. It is preferable that each employee be assigned his/her own respirator, but, failing that, the user must be satisfied that the respirator is in fact clean and sanitary. All equipment, with the exception of consumable dust filters, which should be replaced after use, must be kept clean and ready for use. Over a period of time, a piece of equipment will deteriorate even when not used. Consequently, regular inspection must be conducted damaged or deteriorated equipment must be identified and replaced when necessary. It is also necessary to ensure a supply of consumables such as replaceable filters as well as equipment components. 

Cleaning should be carried out with relative ease and with the use of standard cleaning materials [7]. Vacuum facilities should be available for cleaning and contact parts fouls be wiped down and sanitized utilizing a sanitizing agent. The equipment should be washed, dried, covered, and stored in an equipment storage area. 

Cleaning validation should be considered important in multiproduct facilities and should be performed among others, for equipment, sanitization procedures and garment laundering. 

A comprehensive Facility Cleaning and Sanitization Program with an initial schedule for each room will be developed, with procedures based on the initial sanitization validation results, the criticality of operation performed in each area, and the frequency of use. The initial schedule will be modified as necessary based on routine environmental monitoring. The environmental monitoring results will be compared against alert and action levels. 

There should be written procedures assigning responsibility for sanitation and describing in sufficient detail the cleaning schedules, methods, equipment, and materials to be used and facilities to be deaned. Such written procedures should be followed. 

The jamtoiial workforce is typically involved in cleaning the the plant or facility, handling refuse, and performing sanitation duties. In some instances, power sweepers, scrubbers, and powered handling devices are operated by the janitorial staff.
