Cleaning machines, enclosed airtight

Note that these distinaions are not mutually exclusive. Both airtight and airless enclosed cleaning machines are sealed vessels. They differ in how they are used. 

In the remainder of this chapter, five examples will be related of how airless and airtight enclosed cleaning machines may be used to implement various cleaning processes with various part stiuctures.

In the mid-1990s these externally sealed machines were exhibited at various trade shows. They drew some interest, but few sales. The reason was that other technologies, such as airless enclosed machines, provided better value. Externally sealed enclosed machines do constrain emissions at the price of increased initial investment and somewhat lengthened cycle time. Airless and airtight enclosed machines do also constrain emissions with similar drawbacks but they enable cleaning processes not possible (pressurized and vacuum operation) with externally sealed enclosed machines, which are basically open-top machines with an airlock as a cover. 

But stabilizers are not wanted in enclosed vapor degreasers because (1) it s difficult for them to leave as other than solid debris on supposedly clean parts, and (2) they have to be purchased and their use controlled. One doesn t want to discard a key value of enclosed airless or airtight machines of any type — that the solvent in them can... 

Treat with a singie soivent. Use an airtight enclosed machine to produce vacuum and volatilize most any low-volatility cleaning solvent so that part surfaces are free of liquid (Chapter 2.8).
