Claude engine

It is not uncommon to utilize both the isentropic and isenthalpic expansions in a cycle. This is done to avoid the technical difficumes associated with the formation of liquid in the expander. The Claude or expansion engine cycle is an example of a combination of these meth-... [Pg.1129]

This cycle also uses continuous counterflow heat exchanger and is closely related to the Joule-Thomson and Claude cycles as shown in Fig. 5.15(a) [60], The cryocooling or reverse Brayton cycle derives from a reciprocating gas engine patented by G. B. Brayton in... [Pg.142]

Three years later Gay-Lussac was accepted to the newly founded and elite Ecole Polytechnique in Paris, where he initially studied mathematics and engineering. However, he soon fell in love with science and especially chemistry. This was in no small part due to the influence of the renowned scientist Claude-Louis Berthollet (1748-1822), a lecturer at the Ecole who was also a contemporary of Antoine Lavoisier. It was Berthollet who took Gay-Lussac under his wing as his student and laboratory assistant. [Pg.149]

Incidentally, Equation (1.15) is also called the Shannon formula for entropy. Claude Shannon was an engineer who developed his definition of entropy, sometimes called information entropy, as a measure of the level of uncertainty of a random variable. Shannon s formula is central in the discipline of information theory. [Pg.13]

Therefore, planning for mortuary heating facilities" is by no means proof that said mortuary was used as homicidal gas chamber . At any rate, no engineering expert would have dreamed of incompletely quoting Jean-Claude Pressac, without stating his source, and without critical, replicable technical arguments. And further to present these incomplete quotation as the result of his own replicable thought process, as his own expert report . And what is more, the cancellation of the order in question renders this proof for the existence of gas chambers per se quite irrelevant. [Pg.71]

The Claude s cycle is a nonideal isentropic plus an isenthalpic expansion. A preheated gas is firstly isothermally compressed from p to p2 followed by a fast isobaric cooling through 3 from T 300 K. There, an expansion engine with another precooled gas helps the hydrogen gas to step to point 4 and then to T2 80 K. An expansion valve helps the cooled gas to go isenthalpically to point 5 at an even lower temperature T3 30 K and p3 being lower than p2. An isentropic expansion finally produces the liquefied gas at the initial T. ... [Pg.618]
