Classic Qualitative Analysis Procedure to Identify a Pure Compound

3 CLASSIC QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS PROCEDURE TO IDENTIFY A PURE COMPOUND [Pg.835]

The classic system of qualitative organic analysis consists of six steps, each of which is discussed in the following subsections. The first four steps, which may be carried out in any order, should be completed before performing the qualitative tests for functional groups. The final step must always be the preparation of one or more solid derivatives. [Pg.835]

Elemental analysis to determine the presence of elements other than carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. [Pg.835]

Solubility tests in water, dilute acid, and dilute base. [Pg.835]

Functional group analysis using classification tests. [Pg.835]
