Type IV, extra hard (partial denture) alloys, are indicated where high strength, hardness, and stiffness are requked. They are harder, stronger, and less ductile than the type III alloys. These partial-denture alloys are used for cast removable partial dentures, precision-cast fixed bridges, certain three-quarter crowns, saddles, bars, arches, and clasps. [Pg.483]

Titanium alloys should be melted and cast under carefully controlled and optimum conditions. The higher elongation values of titanium castings reflect the superior ductihty of titanium. Ductile clasp arms of titanium castings can withstand relatively large bending adjustments without fracture. [Pg.486]

The fourth stage of folding is the association of domains (and/or subunits). Sometimes association might start at the end of the second stage, but in general it would probably happen only after readjustments within domains were fairly complete. Domains primarily associate as rigid bodies, but there are usually adjustments of side chains at the contact surface, and arms that clasp opposite domains cannot fold into their final conformation until this last stage. Association of subunits is equivalent to association of domains, except for the difference in kinetics produced by the covalent attachment. [Pg.329]
