Hair clasps

The Cracow forensic investigators took hair, presumably cut from inmates, and hair clasps from bags found by the Soviets in Auschwitz. Tested for cyanide residues, both hair and clasps showed positive results. Additionally, a zinc-plated metal cover was tested for cyanide and found to have a positive result as well. The only suggestion I have to offer as to the hair clasp is that it constitutes a symbol of portable wealth.

Modem plastic is the most common simulant for torrniMhpIl today. Various plastics are used and made into such objects as hair ornaments — grips, clasps or combs copying the traditional use of the material (Fig. 8.12). 

Much more intricate were the items made almost entirely of hair, with just a clasp or fixture of silver or gold. The hair in these delicate pieces could be woven into many shapes such as bows, loops and hollow spheres, and worn as brooches or pendant ear-rings. Another style was a bracelet or necklace made up of narrow ropes of woven hair.
