Choice of a die-casting process

There are a number of factors which influence the choice of a diecasting method. These are set out in Table 18.2 opposite each of the diecasting methods. [Pg.309]

For example, if the component under consideration is to be made from aluminium alloy and only 2000 per year are required, the choice would be limited to gravity die-casting. If, however, the quantity required was 50000 per year then the high-pressure cold-chamber method would be appropriate. [Pg.309]

Die-casting Economic Accuracy Casting General minimum Type of Rate of Surface Die costs Capital cost [Pg.310]

Gravity 1000 Good Up to about 3-5 mm Al alloys Medium Good High Nil to very little [Pg.310]

Low-pressure 5000 Good Up to about 2-3 mm Al alloys Low Very good Usually High [Pg.310]
