Chloride is determined by mercurimetric titration to the sodium nitroprusside end-point. Carbonates, acetates and borates do not interfere in the titration but large amounts of ammonium salts do interfere. The method has been applied to methyltrichlorosilane, dimethyldichlorosilane, diethyldichlorosilane, phenylmethyldichlorosilane and phenyltrichlorosilane.
