Chlordane/heptachlor, cancellation

USEPA, US Environmental Protection Agency, 1988. Chlordane/Heptachlor termiticides notification of cancellation and amendment of existing stocks determination. Fed. Regist. 53, 11798-11805. [Pg.427]

In 1988, EPA prohibited the sale, distribution, and shipment of existing stocks of all canceled chlordane and heptachlor products. Subsequently, virtually all uses of heptachlor products were voluntarily canceled by the registrant, Velsicol Chemical Corporation (EPA 1990b). The only commercial use of heptachlor products still permitted is fire ant control in power transformers. Use of existing stocks of heptachlor-containing termiticide products in the possession of homeowners is also permitted (EPA 1990b). [Pg.82]

Both heptachlor and chlordane have been severely restricted in recent years and their formulations are now mainly used for termite control (ref. 103, P- 2) and the dipping of roots or tops of non-food plants. Most registered products containing chlordane were effectively cancelled or their application for registration denied by December 31. 1980. A similar action covers heptachlor use as of July 1,1983. [Pg.335]

In Hong Kong, the nine intentional POPs pesticides (aldrin, chlordane, DDT, dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor, HCB, mirex and toxaphene) targeted for global elimination or restricted production and use were not registered, or their registration status had been cancelled for many years due to toxicological or environmental concern. [Pg.317]

As mentioned earlier, registrations are for 15 years. However, the administrator of the EPA can cancel a registration or change the classification of the pesticide if he or she becomes aware of new data or other developments that would warrant such action. Because of the provisions, pesticide manufacturers must provide the EPA with any new adverse information. The use of many pesticides, including such insecticides as aldrin, chlordane, DDT, dieldrin, and heptachlor, has been cancelled or suspended. [Pg.21]
