Chiral discrimination column chromatography

Taking into account that the MIPs preparation approach was the same both in planar and column chromatography, the optimal experimental conditions to obtain the best chiral discrimination of the polymers in TLC were those used on column chromatography [44,45]. 

The increased popularity of CEC is the result of its advantages that include the vastly increased column efficiency compared to the conventional pressure-driven chromatography. CEC was also adopted for the separations of enantiomers, employing two major modes similar to those used in CE. In the simplest mode, a chiral selector is added to the mobile phase. At present, a less erroneous and more elegant technique uses an open tubular conventional packing or preferably a monolithic column containing an immobilized chiral selector that discriminates the enantiomers. 

The use of a chiral ion-pairing agent in the mobile phase was introduced to column liquid chromatography by Pettersson et al. [35], who assumed that the diastereo-meric complexes are formed between the enantiomers and the chiral counterions and that the separation is achieved on a nonchiral stationary phase. The formed diastereomeric complexes have a different distribution ration between the two phases. The chiral selector should have a structure that makes chromatographic discrimination possible. The interaction between the two species can be based on binding groups, as well as on steric repulsions.
