Chinese eucalyptus oils

ISO standard 770 shows character and data for this oil. Schmidt (2010) reported the Chinese eucalyptus oil coming from Sichuan province and is derived from C. longepaniculatum (Gamble). This must be labeled and it is not correct to mix this up with true eucalyptus varieties. Adulteration is done by 1,8-cineole from various Cinnamomum varieties. The detection is not easy as all these adulterations are natural. [Pg.733]

Some of the other eucalyptus oils of commercial importance iaclude the Chinese eucalyptus, a camphor/ciaeole-type oil E. citriodora Hook, a citroaeUal-type oil E. staigeriana F.v. Muel., a citral-type oil and E. macarthuri H. Deane Maiden, a geranyl acetate-type oil. [Pg.330]

Eucalyptus oil contains usually 70-85% of eucalyptol (1,8-cineole) other constituents present are mostly monoterpene hydrocarbons (a-pinene, S-limonene, -cym-ene, P-pinene, a-phellandrene, camphene, y-terpinene, etc., with the first three in major amounts), with lesser amounts of sesquiterpenes (e.g., aromadendrene, allo-aromaden-drene, globulol, epiglobulol, ledol, and viridi-fiorol), aldehydes (e.g., myrtenal), ketones (e.g., carvone and pinocarvone), and others (jiANGSu). The eucalyptol content is 61.2% and 83.9% in Brazilian and Chinese eucalyptus, respectively. [Pg.272]

However, PMD was discovered as a by-product. It is a white, waxy material, semisolid at room temperature, produced as a distillate after add modification of the lemon eucalyptus oil. This material was determined to be highly repellent, and was given the Chinese name Quwenling that means effective repeller of mosquitoes. PMD is the only plant-based repellent that has been advocated for use in disease-endemic areas by the CDC, due to its proven clinical efficacy to prevent malaria and is considered to pose no risk to human health. It should be noted that the essential oil of lemon eucalyptus does not have EPA registration for use as an insect repellent. [Pg.201]

Quwenling A lotion formulation marketed in China and in several Asian countries. Its active ingredient is the distillate remaining following extraction of oil of lemon eucalyptus from the leaves of Corymbia citriodora. The major active ingredient, PMD, was first discovered when this product was chemically analyzed by the USDA. Chinese product. Other information is not available. [Pg.344]
