Chemical synonym data-case

Chemical Designation - A list of common synonyms is given. Synonym names are alternative systematic chemical names and commonly used trivial names for chemicals. An index of synonyms is provided at the end of the handbook to assist the reader in identifying a particular chemical and researching chemical hazards information in the event that the common name of the chemical is not known. The data field also contains the chemical formula. The chemical formula is limited to a commonly used one-line formula. In the case of some organic chemical compounds it has not been possible to represent the chemical structure within such limitation. 

Seventy-live per cent of all papers on experimental Mossbauer spectroscopy are concerned with the first excited-state decay of Fe indeed, because of this, Fe and Mossbauer spectroscopy are synonymous to many people. The sheer volume of published work makes a completely exhaustive survey impossible, but in the following chapters a series of critical reviews will be given of specific areas defined by chemical classification. In this way a comprehensive view of the field can be obtained. The nuclear parameters of the s Fe y-decay have also received more attention than usual. This chapter summarises the currently available data on the Fe nuclear parameters, and then applies the general theory of hyperfine interactions given in Chapter 3 to the specific case of this isotope. 

In the tables the data are presented in the following format the mineral name is given in the heading. A synonym, variety and/or discredited name, if any, is also given, in parentheses. A mineral name written in capital letters represents a well-described mineral or one approved by the Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA). A mineral name in lower case is a synonym, variety or discredited name. The chemical formula, and then the structural formula, are given below the mineral name. The chemical symbol Ln is used for La-Lu, and R stands for rare earths including yttrium. 

Under 505-60-2, you see the chemical name "l,l-Thiobis[2-chloroethane], TO-03220." The DOC is organized alphabetically by preferred chemical name, which in this case is not the trivial name "mustard gas." The entry TO-03220 is found in Volume 6. As in the Merck Index, DOC entries usually provide synonyms, basic chemical and physical data, and literature references to background information on preparation, toxicology, spectra, etc. (In the case of mustard gas, however, note that the DOC does not refer to Meyer s original synthesis.)...
