Asbestos fiber possesses a high tensile strength along its axis, is chemically inert, non-combustible, and heat resistant. It has a high electrical resistance and good sound absorbing properties. It can be weaved into cables, fabrics or other textiles, and also matted into asbestos papers, felts, or mats. [Pg.897]

The high fluorine content contributes to resistance to attack by essentially all chemicals and oxidizing agents however, PCTFE does swell slightly ia halogenated compounds, ethers, esters, and selected aromatic solvents. Specific solvents should be tested. Post-combustion capture using chemical absorption by aqueous alkaline amine solutions has been used for C02 and H2S removal from gas-treating plants for decades [6]. Amines react rapidly, selectively and reversibly with C02 and can be applied at low C02 partial pressure conditions. Amines are volatile, cheap and safe in handling. They show several disadvantages as they are also corrosive and require the use of resistant materials. The crystal structure and the sintering behavior of hexaaluminates was widely investigated. The relation of sintering resistance to anisotropic ion diffusion in the layered alumina phase was clarified to a large extent. Other evidence suggests that combustion activity is obtained through a redox mechanism associated with reversible variation of oxidation state of the transition metal ions in the structure. Mn was the best and most stable active component. Silicon nitride is prized for its hardness (9 out of 10 on the Mohr scale), its wear resistance, and its mechanical strength at elevated temperatures. It melts and dissociates into the elements at 1,900 °C, and has a maximum use temperature near 1,800 °C in the absence of oxygen and near 1,500 °C under oxidizing conditions.41 It also has a relatively low density (3.185 g/cm3). Unlike silicon carbide, silicon nitride is an electrical insulator. The bulk material has a relatively good stability to aggressive chemicals.
