Chemical Industry major growth period

In the major growth period of the chemical industry, roughly from 19 5 to 1970, the application of risk assessment to chemical hazards also grew rapidly. In the field of toxicology... [Pg.147]

FIGURE A.l Industrial support of academic chemical engineering nearly quadrupled from 1980 to 1986 and is the major factor behind growth in academic funding in this period. Data from Council for Chemical Research. [Pg.198]

The major industrial developments in organic chemicals initiated in the 1930-1940 period have continued since that time. Most important of all is the introduction of purely synthetic polymers. Table 4.1 shows the growth in importance of these materials over the period 1950 to 1988. Although much of this growth was due to the increased demand for the polymers introduced in the 1930s and 1940s—urea-formaldehyde resins, nylon, polyethylene (low-density), poly(vinyl chloride), and butadiene co-polymers—new polymers... [Pg.69]

The chemical process industries have played a major role in the employment of industrial chemists in recent years, providing jobs for two-thirds of those chemists. Within the chemical process industries, the chemicals and allied products group has become increasingly important the proportion of all industrial chemists employed in the latter group increased from one-third to one-half in the years from 1950 to 1970. Chemicals and allied products accounted for 52% of the growth in industrial employment of chemists over the twenty-year period, and for 81% of the increase in chemists employed in the chemical process industries (see Tables 5.1 and 5.2). [Pg.109]
