Some experienced chemists could lead a project from the beginning to its implementation in a production plant. Frequently, chemical engineers took over at some stage in the development. Management generally had a strong input into such decisions. 

Chemical and isotopic hydrology are tailored to these challenges, and the hydrochemist has a key role as a consultant to the groundwater developers and managers, decision-makers, and environmental quality authorities. 

This is acceptance of risk management decisions of other countries and of the risk assessment on which such decisions arc based. If accepted universally by developing countries, this concept will have a significant effect on the world chemical industry and hasten the harmonization of regulations. 

PRIO is a web-based tool intended to be used to preventively reduce risks to human health and the environment from chemicals. The aim of PRIO is to facilitate in the assessment of health and environmental risks of chemicals so that people who work as environmental managers, purchasers and product developers can identify the need for risk reduction. To achieve this PRIO provides a guide for decision-making that can be used in setting risk reduction priorities. 

In the past few years a variety of workshops and symposia have been held on the subjects of model verification, field validation, field testing, etc. of mathematical models for the fate and transport of chemicals in various environmental media. Following a decade of extensive model development in this area, the emphasis has clearly shifted to answering the questions "How good are these models ", "How well do they represent natural systems ", and "Can they be used for management and regulatory decision-making "...
