Characteristics of textile-based implant materials

When used inside the body, the implant materials should not initiate undesired host response, nor cause any undesired reaction from neighboring or distant tissues. In practice, since a medical implant is an invasive material, its interaction with the surrounding tissue can lead to complications during or after surgery, such as infection.
