Structural characterisation

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is a 36 amino acid polypqrtide with tyrosine residues at both ends of the molecule. It is characterised structurally by a PP-fold consisting of an extended polyproline helix and an a-helix connected by a (3-tum [1]. Based on structural and evolutionary criteria, NPY is closely related to peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP). [Pg.829]

Many of the papers devoted to the two topics discussed above are essentially technological in character and do not attempt to characterise structure and order and thus are not really relevant to the subject matter of this book. However, a number of such papers have made important contributions to the field of non-linear optics and infrared detection. Thus the remainder of this action will consist of a discussion of those papers whose content is directly relevant to questions of order and structure followed by a catalogue of some of the other more important papers in this general field. [Pg.106]

The mixed-valence compound with stoichiometry [A][CrnCrln(ox)3] (A = NBu4, P(Ph)4) has also been synthesised and fully characterised structurally and magnetically [88], Again, although short-range antiferromagnetic correlations were ob-... [Pg.310]

Several important terms and concepts must be understood in order to discuss fully the synthesis, characterisation, structure and properties of polymers. However, some are of such fundamental importance that they must be defined at the outset. [Pg.188]

Subsequently, chiral terpyridines bearing bornyl substituents in their 6-positions (73 and 74) have been employed for copper(I) helicate formation. The two enantiomeric forms of the ligand preferentially form dinuclear double helicates with P and M chiralities, respectively. Both chiral isomers have been characterised structurally by X-ray diffraction. [Pg.165]

All these problems have been overcome by Jon Iggo at Liverpool through the design of a flow celP which allows multinuclear NMR measurements to be made at constant pressure (< 200 atm) from — 40 to + 190°C. This cell can be used not only to characterise structurally catalytic intermediates but also to carry out meaningful kinetic measurements, which compare favourably with kinetic data from reactions carried out in a stirred autoclave. For rhodium-catalysed hydroformylation reactions, the rates determined in the flow cell are an order of magnitude higher than those obtained from a sapphire tube. [Pg.97]

The heterobimetallic complex [Os(N)Me(CH2SiMe3)(/r-0)Cr02] has been characterised structurally and shown to be active in the catalysis of the oxidation of benzyl alcohol by molecular oxygen. Kinetic data are consistent with a mechanism involving initial binding of the alcohol... [Pg.3342]

Summary. Bauverbande (connection pattern or frameworks) will be used to characterise structure types they may describe the complete structure (as for most of the elements and some of the intermetallic compounds) or the anion framework... [Pg.68]

In the reaction of a bimetallic tungsten-tin compound with acetonitrile we isolated and characterised structurally a mononuclear seven-coordinate compound with two mutually cis nitrile ligands and a trichlorostannyl moiety coordinated to tungsten through a direct tungsten-tin bond and a chloride bridge (Eq. 4) [39]. [Pg.352]

Oxidation of LDL is characterised structurally by an increase in electrophoretic mobility due to Schiff-base reactions between lysine residues on apoUpoprotein B in LDL and specific aldehydic breakdown products of hydroperoxy fatty acids (Steinbrecher et al. 1990). [Pg.689]

In practice, three of the isomeric chloride ion complexes, characterised structurally, resulted from templated syntheses on the smaller chloride anion. The fourth isomer (a), with all phenyl substituents residing on the same side of the metal-lamacrocycle, does not form due to steric constraints. When the larger iodide ion was employed to template the formation of the tetrameric metallamacrocycle, the only stereoisomer formed was (c), with the alternating up down arrangement of phenyl groups. The steric interactions between I and the phenyl substituents are believed to be minimised in the transition state, leading to the formation of this stereoisomer to an extent which is not possible in the transition states for the formation of other three stereoisomers [47, 48],... [Pg.539]

The Raman spectrum of Na2Si20s at temperatures up to 1773 K was used to characterise structural changes with temperature. IR data have been reported for cyclosilicates containing (Si03) , where n = 3,4 or 6, units. The position of the... [Pg.206]

In the early nineties nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was the preferred technique in order to fully characterise structures of oligosaccharides. Nowadays, both matrix assisted laser desorption/ ionisation time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) and electrospray MS have become routine and powerful techniques in the identification of structural features of oligosaccharides (26-28), even to determine the positions of residues within oligosaccharides (29,30). [Pg.114]

Several molecular homogeneous catalysts are currently available, with well-characterised structures and reasonably well understood operating mechanisms. [Pg.141]
