Change efforts

A year later, Bush announced his own approach to the problem of climate change. In February 2002, he outlined a voluntary system by which industries would he encouraged to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 18 percent by the year 2010. In addition, 4.6 billion would be allotted to the nation s climate change effort in the next five years, 65 percent of which would go to research on the problem and development of new technologies. 

Creating vision to help direct the change effort... 

If, however, you are confronted with behavior-driven change, Kotter s transformational leadership approaches will not necessarily work. Indeed, as extensively discussed in Smith (1996), study after study shows that up to four out of five change efforts either fail or seriously suboptimize. And the root cause of these failures lie in leaders who follow decision-driven approaches like those suggested by Kotter when, in fact, they face behavior-driven change. 

Industries that have a reliance on materials have a burdensome responsibility to ensure constant quality. Reliability comes from knowledge of the process of change and the predictions about change resulting from environmental conditions. Like freshly baked bread, most materials are at the highest quality at the time of manufacture but depreciate with time. Since it is important to understand change, effort and money are therefore invested in an attempt to ensure quantification of change. This provides the basis for a shelf life specification and recommendation for the conditions under which a material can be used. 

The D I journey was challenging and often met with resistance, as Thomas and Creary (2009) describe in their Harvard Business School case on the change effort. Yet PepsiCo met many of its D I goals. The OHS was a vital tool in this transformation, as both a means to track progress and provide scorecard information as well as a platform for communicating the importance of D I in everything the company did. 

Many OD professionals and change experts would agree that any transformational change effort requires senior leadership support to be successful. Some have even embedded this as a key... 

Our goal in this chapter is to share our conceptualization of inclusive climates as well as our thoughts on how one might design organizational change efforts for enhancing inclusion. Our focus is on the inclusiveness of work environments, with the assumption that people experience more personal inclusion when they work in an inclusive climate. 

Organizational Change Efforts to Become More Inclusive ... 

The lessons we learned in this specific exercise, combined with our practical and research experience, led us to make the recommendations summarized in Table 11.1 for how organizations should approach an organizational change effort designed to enhance inclusion in diverse settings. We describe each of these eight steps in the sections that follow. 

The development and implementation of diversity and inclusion strategies are treated as multiyear change efforts. These efforts are guided by the change management principles we have used in other major organizational change processes. 

Standard work can be the audit step that ensures success of any large-scale change effort.

A guiding coalition for Supply Chain 2020 needs to be composed of both managers and leaders who work together as a team. There needs to be the right balance of each. They need to be trained. It is important that they are credible in leading the change efforts. 

Present traffic patterns around the presses for die and material flow will aid prestaging material and dies for quick die change. Having an instant success provides the momentum to continue the program and motivate the employees on the production floor to support the quick die change effort.
