CFD modelling for MBR applications

Due to the complexity of the MBR process, CFD has been used principally to study particular aspects of an MBR system with the major types of modelling best described as (Nopens et al, 2008)  

Macro-scale modelling of entire MBR with flow and mixing characterisation within the reactor, scale-up and optimisation. 

Meso-scale modelling of membrane modules and aeration system. 

Micro-scale modelhng of interaction of bubbles on membrane, filtration and fouling. 

Macro-scale The impact of energy demand on the macro-mixing (RTD) of full-scale MBR plants
