Lead contamination and/or lead poisoning can come from a variety of sources. These include such well known sources as the use of lead salts in ceramic glazes and paint chips ingestion by children. Such exposure involves actual oral consumption of non-metallic lead. [Pg.41]

The addition of a soluble chromate salt to Pb(N03)2(aq) produces lead(II) chromate PbCr04, a yellow pigment known as chrome yellow. Another lead-based pigment used in ceramic glazes and once extensively used in the manufacture of paint is white lead, 2 PbC03 Pb(OH)2. [Pg.1027]

In a separate experiment, we used LA-ICP-MS to characterize glazes on historic period ceramics recovered from nineteenth century Mormon pottery production workshops in Utah. This project, while limited in scope, demonstrated that clear glazes in Mormon-made pottery are highly variable. Some pottery assumed to be salt or lead glazed was determined to have high tin and antimony concentrations. This project served as an inq>ortant reminder about... [Pg.59]
