Centrifugal separation purpose

Several types of fluid creams are manufactured and sold directly to consumers. The most significant difference in the creams is the level of milk fat they contain from as little as 10% in half and half to 40% in whipping cream. All commercial creams are produced by centrifugally separating the less dense, higher-fat products from the residual skim milk. Most often, cream with 40% fat is separated and then standardized with skim milk to give creams with the desired fat contents. In some instances, creams with desired fat contents are collected directly from the separator in others, as in plastic cream (made for manufacturing purposes), a 40% cream is pasteurized and reseparated while hot to yield a product with 80% fat. [Pg.50]

Other Centrifugal Collectors. Cyclones and modified centrifugal collectors are often used to remove entrained Hquids from a gas stream. Cyclones for this purpose have been described (167—169). The rotary stream dust separator (170,171), a newer dry centrifugal collector with improved collection efficiency on particles down to 1—2 pm, is considered more expensive and hence has been found less attractive than cyclones unless improved collection in the 2—10-pm particle range is a necessity. A number of inertial centrifugal force devices as well as some others termed dynamic collectors have been described in the Hterature (170). [Pg.397]

The thus-washed crude product is dissolved in a mixture of 12 parts of ethanol and 20 parts of benzene, with mild warming if necessary. 1 Part of sodium chloride and 1.5 parts of saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution are added to the obtained solution in ethanol-benzene, and whole thoroughly admixed. When the brine layer has settled. It is separated and the afore-described washing repeated. The clear solution is concentrated under reduced pressure until incipient formation of crystals and is then poured into 30 parts of benzene, whereupon a thick crystalline pulp is forthwith formed which, after being cooled to room temperature, is centrifuged off. The so-obtained 5-allyl-5-( 3-hydroxypropyl)-barbituric acid is dried at 70°C under reduced pressure and can be used for therapeutic purposes without further purification. Melting point 164 °C to 165°C. Yield 5 parts. [Pg.1327]

Most CZE separations are very sensitive to conductivity (e.g., salt concentration) in the run buffer. Therefore, to avoid introducing a high amount of salt from the sample injection, samples should be buffer exchanged with an appropriate low salt buffer prior to analysis. Centrifugal UF/DF devices are ideal for this purpose, as they are typically very reproducible and allow the analyst greater flexibility in controlling the final sample concentration. [Pg.381]
