Cationic linear poly layer

A different approach to the synthesis of nanosized macromolecules through hierarchical self-assembly is based on Layer-by-Layer (LbL) chemistry. LbL allows the deposition of ultra thin films whose thickness can be controlled by the chemical structure of the molecules and number of deposited layers. There are only a few cases in which polyelectrolyte stars have been prepared by the arm-first strategy. Schanze et al. have described the layer-by-layer (LBL) fabrication of multilayer films and photovoltaic cells using poly(phenylene ethynylene)-based anionic conjugated polyelectrolytes as electron donors and water-soluble cationic fuUerene C ) derivatives as acceptors [44].
