Catch plate

The electrode system can take several forms. In one of these a suspended graphite rod sheathed in Mullite is used as the cathode support, the electrode itself consisting of a small horizontal molybdenum disc fixed to the lower end, which in operation is located two or three inches above the ceU base. The anode is a graphite annulus suspended from two graphite rods, a few inches above the molybdenum cathode. A molybdenum catch-plate rests on the base of the cell to collect thorium metal particles which fall from the cathode. This can be raised from the ceU and drained in the same way as the cathode itself, by removal of the ceU Ud. [Pg.291]

The use of drip pans to catch products, in cases such as a dairy or ice-cream manufacturing plant, instead of flushing this material to the sewer, considerably reduces the organic load. A similar case exists in the plating industry where a drip pan placed between the plating bath and the rinse tanks win reduce the metal dragout. [Pg.176]

Panels of multi-resonator material are made from perforated plate sandwiched with solid plate and an intermediate absorber layer between them. These panels can be built up in enclosures, taking care to seal all junctions adequately. Typically, these enclosures are made to surround small machines (e.g. compressors). Most vessels can now freeze their catch at sea, enabling them to stay offshore without the need to run back to a port within the limited life of the chilled product. If the fish is to be cleaned and processed later, it is frozen whole, either by air blast or, more usually, in vertical plate freezers (see Figure 1.9b), followed by frozen storage. The build up of pressure is aided by the use of a breaker plate, which is a thick disk of perforated metal positioned just downstream of the tip of the screw. A screen pack, comprising layers of woven metal mesh, is placed on the upstream side of the breaker plate. Simple and inexpensive, these devices are still in place in plating operations all too rarely. The intent of a drain board is to catch drips, preventing them reaching the floor and requiring treatment as waste. Construction can be of any compatible material. Care should be taken to orient the board so as to direct drips to the correct solution (e.g., drips of process solution back to the process bath, not into the following rinse).
