Case studies food processing plant

Campbell, J.F., Mullen, M.A., and Dowdy, A.K. 2002. Monitoring stored-product pests in food processing plants A case study using pheromone trapping, contour mapping, and mark-recapture. J. Econ. Entomol 95, 1089-1101. [Pg.284]

Case study III. The food processing plant in St Mary s, Ontario discharges to a municipal wastewater treatment works and must meet the limits for BOD (300 mg/1) and TSS (350 mg/1). The mean influent COD and BOD concentrations are 400 and 5500 mg/1, respectively. The wastewater also includes oil and grease [98]. [Pg.276]

As is the case with isotopic labeling of molecules, enriched levels of stable isotopes of elements can be used as tracers. Isotopes of elements can be used as nutritional supplements for plants or animals to trace absorption, assimilation, and metabolism of elements (Allen and Georgitis). Processes such as biomethylation of elements like mercury and arsenic in the environment can be studied using isotopically enriched elements. In some cases, methylated metals are more toxic than the inorganic species, and generally accumulate up the food chain. [Pg.704]
