OH is converted to HO2 by reactions with carbon monoxide (Reaction (5.79)) and ozone (Reaction (5.90)), and HO2 is converted back to OH by reactions with nitric oxide (Reaction (5.92)) and ozone (Reaction (5.91)). The loss of HOx results from the conversion of OH and HO2 into soluble species like H2O2 and HNO3, followed by wet scavenging of these molecules through precipitation. 

The major loss reactions of OH radicals involve carbon monoxide (50-70%) and methane (10-20%). These reactions lead to the formation of hydroperoxy radicals, HO2, that can regenerate OH radicals, either by reaction with nitric oxide, NO, or by reacting with O3, for example...

At room temperature, Htde reaction occurs between carbon dioxide and sodium, but burning sodium reacts vigorously. Under controUed conditions, sodium formate or oxalate may be obtained (8,16). In addition to the carbide-forrning reaction, carbon monoxide reacts with sodium at 250—340°C to yield sodium carbonyl, (NaCO) (39,40). Above 1100°C, the temperature of the DeviHe process, carbon monoxide and sodium do not react. Sodium reacts with nitrous oxide to form sodium oxide and bums in nitric oxide to form a mixture of nitrite and hyponitrite. At low temperature, Hquid nitrogen pentoxide reacts with sodium to produce nitrogen dioxide and sodium nitrate.
