Capsicum tincture

Tincturo of Oapsicxun. Moisten 1 troy ounco capsicum, in fine powder, with 1 fluid ounce diluted alcohol pack it in a conical percolator, and gradually poor dilnted alcohol upon it until 2 pints of tincture are obtained. ( U. S. Ph.)... 

Gargle for Threatened Mortification of the Throat. Tincture of capsi-uum, 0 drachms honey of roses. 3 drachms infusion of roses, 4 pint. Mix. Or Tincturo of capsicum, G drachms infusion of Peruvian bark. 5 ounces port wine, 3 ounces. Mix. 

Chandler s Chlorodyne. Take 8 groins muriate of morphia, draclun fluid extract of cammbia indica, 1 drops oil of peppermint, 15 drops tincture of capsicum, 2 drachms chloroform, and I ounce each of 08 per cent, alcohol and pure glycerine. Dose, 10 to 30 drops in a wine-glass of water every 3 hours. This preparation is of a clear greenish color. 

Barren s Indian Lirtiment. Alcohol, 1 quart tincture of capsicum, 1 ounce oils of onganuni. sassafras, jjennyroyal, hemlock, of each 4 ounce, and mix. 

Velpeau s Remedy for Diarrhea and Cholera Morbus. Take 1 ouaco each tincture of opium, paregoric elixir, mid tincture of rhubarb 10 drachms essence of peppermint and 6 drachms tincture of capsicum. This is tho original receipt for this celebrated remedy. Dose for an acfult, a tea-spoonful in 1 a wine-glass sweetened water and, if required, half a dose after each loose evacuation. 

Remedy for Severe Chilblains. Prom 10 to 60 grains nitrate of silver dissolved in 1 fluid ounce water bos been sometimes found useful after other applications had appeared of no benefit. Crude, capsicum oleoresin, and extracts (e.g., tincture), and paprika oleoresin. Both capsicum oleoresin and tincture were formerly official in N.F. and U.S.P. pungency is determined by a taste test and is generally expressed in Scoville units. Paprika oleoresin comes in various color strengths.
