Californium radionuclide

On the other hand, there are some ionization techniques that are very useful, particularly at very high mass, but produce ions only in pulses. For these sources, the ion extraction field can be left on continuously. Two prominent examples are Californium radionuclide and laser desorption ionization. In the former, nuclear disintegration occurs within a very short time frame to give a... [Pg.192]

No problems were observed for uranium or americium radionuclides, but HDEHP was needed for the Am- Np equilibrium mixture. Other solgel scintillators have been used for the actinides. Horrocks (1974) has described the use of Readysolv VI (Beclonan Instr.) for normal uranium and Miglio (1978) has used Aquasol II for americium, curium and californium radionuclides. [Pg.26]

Americium, Curium, and Californium Purification. These elements, together with any lanthanides in the sample or added as carriers, pass through the anion exchange column used to remove plutonium. This fraction is purified to remove natural-series radionuclides which interfere with americium, curium, or californium measurements as well as stable elements which plate with the transuranics and produce spectral degradation. This latter consideration is especially important for lanthanides as neodymium is used as a carrier. Two lanthanide/actinide separation cycles immediately before electroplating are essential for acceptable plate quality. [Pg.130]
