Calcium-channel blockers - polypeptide toxins A number of peptide marine snail, snake, beede and spider toxins block one or other of the many subsets of Ca -channels see CALCIUM-CHANNEL BLOCKERS. These include the fi>-agatoxtns... [Pg.195]

Using the rat hippocampal slice technique, Dimpfel (1996) examined the effects of the D- and L-enantiomers of a-lipoic acid in antagonising apa-min neurotixicity. Apamin, a polypeptide from bee venom, acts as a most specific blocker of the small conductance Ca -dependent lU channel (for review see Dryer 1990). Thioctic acid firstly reversed the effect of 6 mM calcium in the superfusion fluid and secondly reversed the effect of apamin. [Pg.507]
