such a protection device has to detect a fault and to isolate within 1 millisecond at the latest. 

In the history of electrical engineering with regard to mining equipment, attempts have been made to put such systems into practice [6, 27]. In the following, a cable protection system will be described in more detail. This system successfully demonstrates for the first time how to avoid the ignition of gas-air atmospheres in case of cable faults [57],
