By Reaction with Other Organometallic Compounds

Carbanions arising from other organometallic compounds also react with phosphorus with the formation of organophosphorus compounds. Heating tetraphen-yltin with elemental phosphorus (1 2) for 16 h to 320 oC produced triphenyl-phosphine in 85% yield 5) ppoof for the intermediate formation of tin-phos- 

A 70% yield of tris (pentafluorophenyl)phosphine was obtained from the reaction of bromo-bis (pentafluorophenyl) thaUium (III) with phosphorus at 190 °C for 4 days 

The report that triphenylphosphine is formed in quantitative yield when a mixture of Phj As and P is heated to 300 °C for 4 h could not be confirmed by later workers 1 9) 

Recently an unusual reaction was reported. Low valent coordinatively unsaturated complexes of rhodium such as RhX(MR3)3, M = P, As, react with white phosphorus (S and Se)in dichloromethane solution to give complexes of the type [ RhX(MR3 )2 P4 ]. The complexes appear to contain an intact P4 unit bonded to rhodium A summary of these reactions is included in Table 10.
