2-butanone manufacture

Secondary butyl alcohol, methylethyl car-binol, 2-butanol, CH3CH2CH(Me)OH. B.p. I00°C. Manufactured from the butane-butene fraction of the gas from the cracking of petroleum. Used to prepare butanone. [Pg.71]

This type of amination by an oxaziridine is assumed to be the key step of a novel process for hydrazine manufacture, in the course of which butanone in solution with ammonia is reacted with hydrogen peroxide and acetonitrile. The smooth formation of oxaziridines from Schiff bases and hydrogen peroxide-nitrile mixtures is as well known as NH transfer from an oxaziridine like (300), suggesting the intermediacy of (300) as the N—N forming agent (72TL633). [Pg.235]

Walker et al. (1993) conducted a cohort mortality study among 7814 shoe-manufacturing workers (2529 males and 5285 females) from two plants in Ohio (United States) that have been in operation since the 1930s. The workers, men and women, were potentially exposed to solvents and solvent-based adhesives. It was thought that toluene may have been a predominant exposure, but a hygiene survey in 1977-79 showed that, in addition to toluene (10 measurements ranged from 10 ppm to 72 ppm [38-270 mg/m3]), there were also 2-butanone (methyl ethyl ketone), acetone, hexane and... [Pg.835]

These constants, which are related to the structure of the molecules, allow an evaluation of the forces of interaction between the stationary phase and the solute for different classes of compounds. An index with an elevated value indicates that the stationary phase has a strong affinity for compounds that contain particular organic functions. This leads to a greater selectivity for this type of compound. For example, in order to separate an aromatic hydrocarbon contained in a mixture of ketones, a stationary phase for which benzenes have a very different constant than butanone will be selected. These differences in indices appear in most manufacturers catalogues of chromatographic components (Table 2.1).
