Working alone in jobs such as taxi and bus driving and fast food delivery m expose a worker to violence. Leaving a shop after hours with the takings presents a risk. [Pg.236]

The administrator needs to understand what type of driver is needed to make a good candidate for consideration. The administrator needs to know the legal requirements of the position as well as the skills, abilities, personality, and behaviors that will lead to reduced-risk performance when dealing with the school bus driving environment. Any of the four basic personality temperaments may serve as an excellent school bus driver candidate, but it is crucial to work with this new driver based on the positive personality and behavior traits that candidate possesses. [Pg.231]

Support Circuitry A set of components that provide functions such as address decoding, wait-state generation, clocks, and bus driving. Support circuitry extends to voters, hamming encoders/decoders (e.g. Am2960), and scannable latches. [Pg.109]

Thc.se systems were evolved to provide a variable -frequency supply source to feed directly the stator terminals of the a.e. motor or its rotor through the slip-rings, The motors had to be invariably a combination of two or more slip-ring motors to receive the rotor frequency voltage from the other machine or feed back the rotor frequency voltage to another machine. The easiest method was to have a variable-frequency supply source, which was not possible, unless the supply source itself was captive and specified for this drive alone or a combination of these drives on the same bus. [Pg.99]

Note The time gap between a fa.st bus transfer i.s so small that it will not permit the various drives to slow down sufficiently to affect their performance or the system if they are made to re-accelerate (re-energize) on restoration of power. [Pg.188]

There have also been revivals of the steam car. Robert McCulloch, the chain-saw millionaire, spent part of his fortune on a steam prototype, called the Paxton Phoenix, between 1951 and 1954. William Lear of Learjet fame, spent 15 million in 1969 on a turbine bus and a 250-horsepower turbine steam car. Both used quiet, efficient steam engines although the bus had reliability problems and poor gas mileage. Lear also tried to enter a steam car into the 1969 Indianapolis 500. The British firm of Austin-Healey was also working on a steam car in 1969. It had four-wheel drive. However, even prosperous entrepreneurs like McCulloch and Lear found that they lacked the means and support structure to successfully mass market a competitive car. Alternative power systems would have to wait until air-quality regulations resulted in some breakthroughs with hybrid and even fuel-cell cars. [Pg.151]

You will want to set aside a stretch of time when you plan to study in your designated study place. But you can also be creative and find ways to study for short bursts during your normal routine. For example, if you spend an hour at the gym on the stationary bike, you can read while you cycle. Or you can review flashcards on your bus ride. If you drive to work, you could record some study material on a tape or CD. You could also listen to this tape while you walk the dog. [Pg.22]

It is perhaps inevitable that we imagine ourselves creatures of choice, especially in contemporary America. Stores are filled with a dazzling array of consumer options. The general affluence of North American people give them enhanced freedoms of choice, as do the promises of democratic government. Environmentally, people clearly make decisions every day to drive, walk, or take the bus to recycle or simply throw away the trash and to apply or not apply chemicals to their lawn. [Pg.5]
