Brunner gland

Small-intestinal secretions. The glands of the small intestine (the Lieberkuhn and Brunner glands) secrete additional digestive enzymes into the bowel. Together with enzymes on the microvilli of the intestinal epithelium (peptidases, glycosidases, etc.), these enzymes ensure almost complete hydrolysis of the food components previously broken down by the endoenzymes. 

Gastric lipoma is rare and usually appears as a smooth submucosal mass (Fig. 5.20) (Maderal et al. 1984). Brunner gland hamartomas are typically found in the first part of the duodenum and at barium study produce a characteristic cobblestone appearance due to multiple small nodules. They can also act as a lead point for intussusception (Fig. 5.21a,b) (Park etal. 1999). 

Secretin - The scope of physiological activities of secretin has been broadened by recent findings it now seems fairly certain that these activities include stimulation of pepsin secretion and of Brunner s gland secretion,3° Since the availability of natural secretin of great purity and synthetic secretin, investigators have been able to demonstrate that, in contrast to older preparations, pure secretin is effective by the subcutaneous route39 and up to ten times more potent. ... 

Hyperplasia of Brunner s glands is classically seen in the bulb and descending duodenum in the elderly.
