Hypnotics, bromine-containing

Flnoieseeio-hydrogen peroxide for bromine-containing hypnotics. [Pg.877]

This term denotes a clinically and histologically well-defined form of purpura, the manifestations of which are almost entirely confined to the skin. Drugs play by far the major role in its etiology. Cases of this kind were first described by Loeb (1921) and subsequently in greater detail by Mulzer and Habermann (1930). Even in those early days they were linked with bromine-containing carbamide hypnotics (carbromal, bromural). However, it is only in the last two decades that cases have been seen in larger numbers and the etiological correlations have become more widely known. [Pg.144]

A bromine-containing drug used in combination with pentobarbitone as a hypnotic. It can be detected in gastric aspirates by a simple screening test. [Pg.68]

Coulometry The basic information on the principle and practice of coulometry is presented elsewhere in this encyclopedia. In cHnical chemistry, coulometry is exclusively used for the determination of chloride concentration. For this application coulometry is sufficiently specific, because the concentration of other halides is usually very low in comparison to the chloride concentration ( 100 mmol 1 in serum). However, in case of long-lasting abuse of, e.g., hypnotics, which contain bromine (carbromal, bro-misoval), bromide concentrations higher than 5mmoll can be observed (bromide is eliminated very slowly (elimination half-life 300h) and will accumulate). The bromide concentration will add... [Pg.715]
