Brick lining repair

From the support ring to the lower brick lining, the quench was refined with four layers of chopped strand mat and two C-veil layers. Finally, a ceramic sleeve was fitted within the quench s 950 mm inner diameter, completing repairs. [Pg.317]

Patch. A repair to a brick lining, especially to one in which the refractories are bricked in rings, and no whole ring is replaced. [Pg.226]

Usually, the lining (repair) of a reduction cell is performed in a specialized repair shop rarely, it is made right in the reduction shop. Typically, a thin layer leveling the granulated fireclay grit is placed in the new steel cradle or in the cradle after repair, and then the heat insulation slabs are lined. On the layers of heat insulation the refractory barrier layer is lined (bricks or dry barrier mixtures), the side line is made near the edges, and the cathode bottom blocks are installed. There are no mortars between the insulation layers. Bricklayers try to avoid using mortars because excessive water requires evaporation, which is not an easy process. Sometimes mortars are used to Une the upper layer of bricks (if the refractory layer is made from bricks). The carbon ore SiC side-wall blocks are installed on the side line after the cathode bottom blocks have been installed. [Pg.80]

Granular refractories (castables, mouldables, mortars, etc.) serve for the construction of monolithic kiln and furnace linings, for hot and cold repairs, as mortars for the joining of bricks, etc. Essentially, they are mixtures of refractory granular materials with inorganic binders which provide strengthening in situ . [Pg.196]

Bricks are commonly produced by refractories and come in standard and nonstandard shapes. Nonstandard shapes are costlier. Standard shapes include rectangular prisms, tapered bricks, and tubular sleeves. Some refractory materials are supplied in granular form. These are called pea-sized refractories and are used in furnaces. To make the top layer of a furnace hearth, these pea-sized refractories are thrown onto the hearth while hot. They also are mixed with hot tar as a binder and are used as a lining for furnace hearths. Running repairs are made from castables. These are plastic preparations that can be made in any shape they are dried and fired in situ. [Pg.344]
