Boundary conditions geometric configuration

Laminar Flow Normally, laminar flow occurs in closed ducts when Npe < 2100 (based on equivalent diameter = 4 x free area h-perimeter). Laminar-flow heat transfer has been subjected to extensive theoretical study. The energy equation has been solved for a variety of boundary conditions and geometrical configurations. However, true laminar-flow heat transfer very rarely occurs. Natural-convection effects are almost always present, so that the assumption that molecular conduction alone occurs is not valid. Therefore, empirically derived equations are most rehable. [Pg.387]

From continuity of i(iw) and v(iw), this is also the ratio of i and V in the sample section at x = 0 as determined by the dielectric material of interest, its geometrical configuration, and boundary conditions for the sample section. The dielectric response characteristics can be described macroscopically at frequencies of interest by the relation of Maxwell displacement and field vectors (t,j[) and E(t,r)... [Pg.185]

Based on calculations with the finite element package ANSYS, this has been done for a number of geometric configurations, as recorded in Figure 4.9. The aspect ratio Iz/h of the cuboid reflects the distance between the electrodes in one direction of the shear plane (/s) and the extent of the electrodes in the other direction of the shear plane (/i). As expected, vzi tends towards zero for relatively close electrodes while it asymptotically approaches one with increasing distance. In consideration of an additional dimensionless quantity Cf to capture further influences like material properties and boundary conditions, this behavior may be roughly approximated by the following function ... [Pg.60]

The binary alloy Ac,j Beg, Cyt-I-Ci) = 1, shall be studied by the means of supercells containing N atoms with periodic boundary conditions. Each site of the cell can be occupied by a A or a B atom. If the chemical occupations are not considered, the lattice described by the sites within the supercell and their periodic replicas is a simple lattice, with one atom per unit cell. Below, it shall referred to as the geometrical lattice . In order to have a theory flexible enough to deal on equal footing both with ordered and disordered alloys, in principle, one should consider all the different alloy configurations that belong to the... [Pg.354]

However, the designed simulations still need to be configured with a set of system and plant parameters to justify the geometrical positions and shapes of components as well as required simulation time and precision. In addition, the generated simulations typically require a set of variables representing boundary conditions for the system under simulation (see Sect. 10.3). Furthermore, their output variables (i.e., simulated results) have to be saved and visualized in a form that is easy to be read and comprehended by human domain expert. These tasks are solved by the simulation integration approach, which is proposed in the first part of this chapter. [Pg.275]

The search for an optimal design may be considerably challenging, since one may contemplate a very large number of geometric possibilities, and boundary and initial conditions in a fluid flow network. In practice, one may examine a number of alternative configurations, optimize their performance, and compare the optimized alternatives. Finally, one should select a suitable configuration with the least irreversibility or cost. [Pg.245]

A soap film contained by a fixed boundary of any three-dimensional framework will also acquire a minimum area. Consequently, soap films can be used to solve mathematical problems requiring the minimization of a surface area contained by a boundary. In order to obtain analogue solutions, we require a frame to form the boimdary of a surface. When the frame is withdrawn from a bath of soap solution, a soap film will form which will attain its minimum area configuration on reaching equilibrium. Based on experimental observations, Joseph Plateau postulated that soap films contained by a framework always satisfy three geometrical conditions ... [Pg.57]
