Border search

A simple phenomenological method can be used to describe changing crystallinity from WAXS data of isotropic materials. It is based on the computation of areas in Fig. 8.2. First we search the border between first-order and second-order amorphous halo. For PET this is at 29 37° (vertical line in the plot). Then we integrate the area between the amorphous halo and the machine background. Let us call the area Iam. Finally we integrate the area between the crystalline reflections and the amorphous halo, call it Icr, and compute a crystallinity index... 

Under the Fourth Amendment, several general search categories exempt from the warrant-and-probable cause requirement include suspicionless searches conducted at the border in prisons at airports entrances to government buildings administrative searches inspections of closely regulated businesses routine regulatory investigations and special needs searches. These warrantless situations predominantly involve... 

Immigration control. Authorities may stop vehicles and search them for illegal ahens in border control situations. However, the need for a warrant becomes greater the farther from the border where the search occurs [65]. 

Inland or roving border patrol search and seizures are subject to traditional Fourth Amendment standards. A person, however, appearing only to have foreign ancestry, is not reasonable suspicion for the intrusion. Other factors must exist [78]. 

Myocyte replication is the failing heart s attempt to compensate for a limited capacity for hypertrophy. When Urbanek et al. [37] used Ki-67 (a nuclear protein expressed during cell division) to assess the mitotic activity of myocytes, they observed significantly greater mitotic activity at infarct border zones than in distant myocardium or undiseased control hearts. The evidence that cardiac myocytes divide shortly after a myocardial infarction led investigators to search for the origin of the dividing myocytes [82]. This culminated in the description of resident CSCs [35-37]. 

The principle of using the totality of the circumstances to determine whether the decision to search is reasonable may indicate judicial deference to the practical difficulties of making such decisions in a matter of moments (such as when a person will soon have left the area). In United States v. Awizu (2002), the Court in a unanimous decision came to a similar conclusion involving a stop made by a border patrol officer. 

September 21 The U.S. Customs Department launches Operation Intercept. For a period of two weeks every vehicle crossing the border between the United States and Mexico is searched. Traffic bogs down for miles, and businesses on both sides of the border are severely impacted. The operation is stopped, but Mexico agrees to more aggressively pursue marijuana traffickers.
